Scope of Services
The scope of this project included performing anchor pullout tests on concrete anchors inserted in 4,000 psi concrete. Samples of seven different concrete anchors were delivered to our laboratory. Each anchor sample was similar consisting of a circular holder with a pin that fit inside the holder. The holder was to be inserted into a predrilled hole and the pin hammered flush to the surface thereby spreading the base of the holder and anchoring the system into the concrete.
Procedures
Each holder was inserted into a 1/4" predrilled hole, a pullout test fixture fitted about the holder, and the anchor driven in flush to the pullout device. Each anchor was inserted into 4,000 psi concrete. The entire anchor was enclosed by concrete, with the exception of a 1/8" portion which was enclosed by the test fixture. The anchor was then pulled out of the concrete until either the concrete or the anchor failed.
Specify: The General Services Administration federal specification number FF - S - 325, Group V, Type II, Class 3.
Apply Suitable factor of safety to arrive at design loads. The above results were obtained under laboratory conditions.
